The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations held a meeting with representatives of the International Organization for Migration

18.03.2021

The meeting was held with the participation of the Adviser to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan M. Khairiddinov, First Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations E. Mukhitdinov and IOM sub-regional coordinator for Central Asia Z. Hajiyev.

In the meeting issues of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the International Organization for Migration to assist migrants, to develop legal mechanisms for regulating migration flows, as well as the opening of an IOM office in Tashkent were discussed.

Also, the parties exchanged views on the professions for labour migrants abroad, and their training (language learning, knowledge of the country's historical and cultural heritage, etc.).

It should be noted that in recent years, Uzbekistan has been taking systemic measures in the field of migration management and protection of labour migrants. In particular, intergovernmental agreements on labour migration have been signed with the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Japan and the United Arab Emirates. A special fund has been created to protect the rights and interests of citizens working abroad.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) was created precisely to formulate and implement these targeted programs and is an important intermediary in the work with the system of orderly and legal labour migration.
